Geography of Ireland
The island of Ireland is located about 80 km off of the west coast of England. It is a place renowned for its beauty, and endless visitors flock to it yearly to explore its stunning wilds. If you are planning on traveling around the island, be sure to acquire a rental car, as this is the only way to see everything at ease and in detail.
The area surrounding Irelands coasts is mostly mountainous, with huge jutting cliffs disappearing into the ocean and rocky ranges speckling the area inland. The interior of Ireland is mostly flat, broken only by rolling hills. Bogs and marshes are scattered throughout the island, most of which is used for farmland.
Ireland is home to a variety of flora and fauna, much of which can be seen while touring the countryside in a car. Foxes and badgers can be seen throughout the island, along with hares, squirrels, hedgehogs, shrews and red deer. The areas around the coast are littered with seabirds, and many native and migrating birds can be seen nearly everywhere.
If you are looking to explore Ireland's plant life, the best place to do so is in the bogs. These are hotspots for a variety of plants, and picking up a flora guidebook will help you identify most of the species.
